THURSDAY 6^TH MAY
3 pm	*Inauguration of Kinderkom 2004* in the presence of the Hon. Maria Burani Procaccicini, Chairwoman of the Parliamentary Commission for Childhood conference follows: *Digital terrestrial technology opens up new horizons: different televisions, but what about contents?* 2006 is due to be the starting date for the technological innovation of digital TV. To date the issues at the centre of debates have been primarily related to the legislative and technological areas. However some interest must now be given to the content and programmes that will determine what the new digital channels will have to offer. Will the greater number of channels available really guarantee quality Italian television? And how much space will be given to children and teenage programmes have? Guests: Fausto Colombo (Director of the Observatory on Communication, Cattolica University, Milan), Piero De Chiara (Telecom Italy), Giancarlo Innocenzi (Undersecretary to Communications), Gianfranco Noferi (Rai Sat Teenagers), Lucio Picci (Professor of Internet Economics, University of Bologna), Daniele Pugliese (Press Office-Tuscany region),Giuseppe Richeri (Professor of Mass communications, University of Swiss Italy), Romano Tranquilli (Rai Educational), in addition to representatives of Mediaset and Sky TV, Aran Endemol, Magnolia and independent television producers, consumer and juvenile protection associations. 10 pm	*Internet and minors: the new self regulating code:* *what projects and objectives for the Guarantee Committee? What prospects are there for safe surfing of minors and adult literacy?* The issue of communication on the net: from the dangers of surfing for minors to the potential of the web and needs of adult literacy. Thanks to the support and active participation of the National Conference of Corecom, the work group will discuss the objective of creating the groundwork for awareness and literacy in the use of Internet, co-ordinated at national level and supported by the EU. Introduction to the conference by Giuseppe Scarcia, Chairman of the Corecom National Conference. During the meeting Alberto Nuvolari, Chairman of Corecom Veneto, will present the pilot project “Internet and minors: safe surfing”, while Pietro Umberto Ferrero, Chairman of Corecom Piedmont, will present the project “Objectives of Minors” Guests: Daniele Damele (Vice-chairman of the Internet and Minors Committee), Orso Muneghina (Save the Children), Jonathan G. Sierra (New media producer, Icons Multimedia Ltd., Jerusalem), Members of the “Internet and Minors” Guarantee Committee, representatives of the Italian Military Police force, Postal Police, Magistrates of Juvenile Courts, Italian Paediatric Association, juvenile protection associations, teachers associations and the Ministry for Infrastructure and Technology.
2.30 pm	*Media education: the challenge for the “new education”* What is Media Education and what “is not” Media Education? What does becoming a media educator mean? This has been discussed in Italy for more than 15 years and between doubts and confusion, debates of differing schools of thought, theorists, scholars and lay persons has brought little effect. Today we need to reorganise and better define the issue and its objectives to give life to a common project which can lead to direct proceedings and actions with effects in the world of school, education and work. With the support of the MED Association, representatives of foreign universities will be invited to take part (England, France, Austria, Israel) in the debate with the function of discussing this issue for the Italian scientific and scholastic community. Guests: Dorit Ballin (Head of Media-Education at the Israeli Ministry of Education), don Roberto Giannatelli (Chairman of Media Education), Mario Morcellini (Sociology and Communications, La Sapienza Uni. Rome), Piercesare Rivoltella (Cattolica Uni. Milan), Jonathan G. Sierra (Photography and Digital Media Department, The Hadassah College of Technology, Jerusalem) Chava Tidhar (Lewinsky College of Teacher’s Education, Tel Aviv) in addition to the representatives of Institutes of Science and Communications, the Ministry of Education, Universities and Research, teacher, parent and media educator associations, and producers geared towards multimedia and traditional editing. Students of the School of High Training in Media Education of the Sapienza in Rome will also be involved. For these the time spent in Merano will be taken as training days and receive university credit.
6 pm	Presentation of the *Baskerville Mauro Wolf Award* for research into the social effects of the media Technical committee: Alberto Abruzzese, Angelo Agostini, Fausto Colombo, Loredana Cornero, Nicola De Blasi, Mario Morcellini, Peppino Ortoleva, Giuseppe Richeri, Nora Rizza, Patrizia Violi.
6.30 pm	*Presentation of the Franco Angeli award dedicated to Giuliana Ukmar* for infant neuropsychiatry and research in the context of educational rapports and family-problem solving.

7 pm

Presentation of the Kinderkom Web Competition award (dedicated to the best Internet sites for children and teenagers).

The Kindercom conferences, organised with the sponsorship of MED, the Italian Association for communications and media accredited by MUIR with D.M. dated 23/09/03, are intended as moments of updating and training also for teachers and educators.
